Exploring the Theatricality of Dreams: Spotlight on Performance For Leading Strings

Taught by Ellen Keene, Archetypal Dreamwork Therapist/Teacher and Annie Wattles, Director of The Center and Archetypal Therapist/Teacher

This class is for teachers in training and teachers who want to loosen up and explore their capacity to be juicy, creative and theatrical in the context of leading strings at retreats.

There is a workshop component and a class component. In the first component we will meet in a theater space (location TBA) for 2 four hour Sunday workshops to explore warmup exercises used by actors to confront any blocks to expression and to play improvisational theater games that encourage the spontaneous outpouring of one's deeper unconscious impulse life.

The class component will take place in six 2 hour evening sessions (alternating Wednesdays from 6 to 8 pm) where we will enter the dream through the performance aspect. What is the action? How can we magnify it dramatically? How can a greater fluidity with performance skills open the string leader's approach to directing the players as they explore the sacred vessel of the dream? We will use real dreams without the presence of the dreamer to breathe into the realm of the unconscious experientially. We will explore the theatricality of the dream through the action and feel into the dream's intention without taking it to the next level of doing therapy and "closing the string" which is an advanced level of string work taught by Marc in his Wednesday night string class.

This class will be repeated in the winter 2010 semester.
