Outlanders

                                                                                by Josh Ruzansky

Here we stand
On the outer land
Not a friend in sight
Can we make it on our own?

Wooden brooms
Sweeping dusty rooms
As the patrons fight
Can we make it on our own?

The morning glow
Leads us down the road
Walking hand in hand
Can we make it on our own?

Cycles dart
Past a lurching cart
People shout and stand
Can we make it on our own?

Silent child
It’s not safe to cry
Just wait a while
We’re leaving with the dawn

Don’t despair
If we can’t repair
All our broken parts
If we make it on our own

And in the end
If we don’t defend
Our open hearts
We can make it on our own

Here we stand
On the outer lands
Not a friend in sight
We can make it on our own
