About the Presentation

Christa Lancaster and Marc Bregman, co-founders of North of Eden in the USA, are interested in presenting a workshop,Unfolding the Soul: The Promise of Archetypal Dreamwork, at the International Dream Conference 2011 in Amsterdam.

With a combined 50 years of experience working with dreamers one on one and in groups, Christa and Marc have uncovered a way to work with dreams that sidesteps the rational mind and invites dreamers into a direct, often visceral and sensual, experience of the soul that has resulted in radical transformations in many people’s lives, both inner and outer. The core of this work is the understanding that dreams have intentionality; they carry a deep wisdom that wants to bring us closer to our soul selves, our spiritual essence.

Christa and Marc will begin the workshop with a discussion of the theory and practice of Archetypal Dreamwork as reflected in the three stages of dreaming. In Stage 1, we are presented with the reality of our current situation—in particular, the obstructions in the psyche that keep us stuck in unhealthy behaviors and beliefs. In a very practical way, Stage 1 dreams present the dilemma, showing us how the negative force at work in the world is allied with our own unconsciousness. With infinite grace and patience, and sometimes ferocity, dreams take us through each psychological knot so that we can begin to understand who we truly are–and who we are not.

Stage 2 dreams introduce the process of Alchemy, by which we are invited to enter the core feeling states of fear and pain that burn away the psychological obstructions, revealing the spiraling spiritual journey into essence. Alchemy is an esoteric and mysterious process that requires the guidance of someone who has been through the process him- or herself.

Dreamers who reach Stage 3 experience congruence between their inner experience of the soul self and their outer lives. Many at this stage experience a profound sense of calling as they manifest their soul self in the world.

Christa and Marc will discuss the language of Archetypal Dreamwork, including the difference between feelings and emotions and the role of archetypes in dreams.

Following their discussion of the process of Archetypal Dreamwork, Christa and Marc will invite participants to share their dreams in a process of exploration that will reveal the descent to the soul self that their dreams are inviting. The workshop will conclude with a lively dialogue with the audience.

The recent publication of The Red Book by C.G. Jung has ignited the conversation about the nature of dreams and the unconscious. Jungians have speculated for decades about the meanings of dream symbols, archetypes, and so on. Yet here is proof that Jung did not speculate; he stepped into the unconscious. All that he wrote about after The Red Book was inspired by his own journey into the world of the dream.

And we can do the same.

In their workshop, Christa and Marc will discuss the sword-sharp power of dreams, Dying to Self, and the alchemical process that brings dreamers into alignment with their own souls’ essence. They will demonstrate the profound intention of dreams, each of which is an invitation to experience firsthand the call of the soul.
