The Therapist Training Tutorial Program

This Therapist Training Tutorial program is for students who are currently student archetypal dreamwork therapists or who are actively training to become archetypal dreamwork therapists. The program requires each student to receive the Archetypal Dreamwork Certificate.

The Program is an ongoing program for students who are currently working client or who are actively looking to work with clients and have been approved by their therapists and the Tutorial Teaching Team.

The Tutorial Program is a rigorous process where the student works with a team of teachers with their first clients.

The process is a highly personalized process. Each student therapist is assessed for readiness to work with clients by both the Archetypal Dreamwork Therapist the student works with and the Tutorial Teaching Team.

Once you begin working with your first client, each session is supervised by the Tutorial Teaching Team. For each supervision class, you report on the past session, bringing questions to the class about where you needed help, and then are critiqued for your work. In class, we will also review the new dreams for the next session, offering role playing to teach how to work with the new dream material.

The Tutorial Teaching Team:

- Marc Bregman, Master Teacher/Therapist, Founder of Archetypal Dreamwork and Co-Founder of North of Eden
- Christa Lancaster, Master Teacher/Therapist and Co-Founder of North of Eden
- Susan Marie Scavo, Master Teacher/Therapist
- Bill St.Cyr, Master Teacher/Therapist

Teachers/Therapists Annie Wattles and Robin Chase also help teach the class.

Student Therapist Training Program

Student Therapist Preparation:
The Therapist Training Track at the Center

  • Currently in personal therapy with an Archetypal Dreamwork Therapist agreed upon by the NOE Executive Committee
  • Discussion with your therapist about becoming an Archetypal Dreamwork Therapist
  • Enrollment in the Therapist Training Track at the Center for Archetypal Dreamwork
  • Attendance in core classes (listed below) in the Therapist Training Program either in person or via WebEx (watching the class after the fact is not a substitute)
    • The Practice of Presence – This is now being taught as a Writing Class
    • Current therapy training class taught by Marc and Christa (this year’s class is Mystery of the Dream Revealed)
    • Introduction to the Basics of Archetypal Dreamwork (one year)
    • Archetypal Dreamwork and Gender
    • Archetypal Dreamwork and Mythology
    • Other core classes to be determined

Entering the Student Therapist Tutorial Program:
Getting a Client and Entering the Tutorial Process

  • Agreement with your therapist to become a Student Therapist based on your personal therapy work
  • Agreement with the North of Eden Executive Committee
  • Agreement to have your clients contacted by a teacher from the tutorial class (currently Sue) to introduce them to the training program and to let them know the protocol for what will happen if they have questions about their therapist or if the therapist has difficulty carrying out their job
  • Agreement to have a teacher supervise in-session with your client as needed

Once your therapist and the committee agrees that you are a candidate for becoming a student therapist, the process of getting your first client is an organic process. When you are ready for your first client is determined by you and your therapist. Who your first client is also a process, with the intention of finding a first client that is appropriate for you.

Requirements for Being a Student Therapist:
Working with a Client and Being in the Tutorial Process

Tutorial Class Requirements

  • Commitment – the most important requirement is a commitment to doing whatever it takes to be a student therapist
    • Committing to doing whatever it takes in your own work to learn how to be a student. This means being willing to allow being a student therapist to push you in your own work
    • Committing to doing whatever it takes to learn how to be a student with the teachers in the tutorial class including facing into any trauma that arises in your work
  • Full attendance at your tutorial class. This means a commitment to come for the full two hours of your class. This is to learn from the teachings around the other students in the class
  • Agreement with the tutorial team that you will not work dreams in a session that have not been worked with the tutorial team, unless you have permission to do so as part of your training. This permission often comes as you graduate from the tutorial class process
  • Agreement to have a tutorial team supervisor “sit in” on sessions with your client when needed or as a way to assess your progress of becoming a therapist
  • Agreement to be on a one-year probationary period with an assessment of your progress at the end of that year. If at the end of one year, you are not continuing to learn and the client’s work is in jeopardy, then we will assess if it is appropriate for the client to be given to another therapist
  • Agreement to work with the logistics requirements of the tutorial – i.e. to turn in your session reports on time (by 6pm the evening before your tutorial)
