When I was just a kid you know my parents used to take us to the station
We’d all pile into that old ’55 Chevy, head off to the station
Jump out of the car, Hey don’t run now toward those tracks
One hop to the platform, don’t step on any cracks
Oh I’d eat up all my dinner including lima beans to get down to that station
Cause there’s something about a kid and a big old steel train
It may be getting dark out and it could be pouring rain
But I’d died and gone to heaven when I saw that blue light coming toward my station
The pull of steel on steel, the screech and then release, I felt its power
Big black engine oozing steam, it dwarfed me in its shadow, seemed to tower
Then the doors flung open, the conductor jumped on out
He tipped his hat at me, winked and looked about
And the twinkle in his eye was like the morning dew that danced upon the flowers
And he was the man, you know, and I craved his job
Helping all those folks aboard, thanks Conductor Bob
Oh I’d died and gone to heaven when I saw that blue light chugging toward my station
A lot of years have disappeared, I’d plum forgot how much I loved that station
Blame it on the usual stuff, the day-to-day, the pressing complications
But lately I’ve been feeling kid-like, flat out younger too
So I turn to the conductor and I ask him what to do
He says, Climb aboard, young lad, we’d like to take you to your destination
Cause there’s something about a kid and a big old steel train
It sure is getting darker and it could be pouring rain
But I’d died and gone to heaven when I saw that blue light chugging toward my station
Cause there’s something about a kid and big old steel train
Who cares about the darkness and I love the pouring rain
Cause I’ve died and gone to heaven when I see that blue light right here at my station
Oh I’ve died and gone to heaven
